What I Wish Everyone Knew About Reservations

Common procedure follows for all countries whether in Asia, America or European continent for reservation of an accommodation for 2 – 5 star hotels, hostels and home stays.

Travelers would find it easy and convenient per below guidelines

Timing – Reservations could be done for at least a couple of months before the intended date of stay for super peak season in the months of March – May and December – January. Accommodations basically follow the applicable rates for the months wherein the intended stay is requested, and not necessarily at the time of booking.

However, it is more advantageous to book earlier for these seasons so as to get the lowest offered rate and to capture the best room amenities and location. Peak season in the months of February, June, October and November could likewise require an early reservation. Lean months like September could possibly be done at least a couple of weeks before, and has cheaper rates that could be beneficial for budget conscious customers.

Deposit – Depending on the hotel’s policy, some ask for a 50% deposit whether in cash or credit card at the time of booking in order to hold the slot. More lenient hotels permit to pay upon check in or check out at the actual date of reservation.  Some ask for a credit card guarantee without an initial deposit just to protect and secure the booking..

Party – Number of adults and children with their ages should be clearly stated upon making a reservation. This is so to suggest the room distribution and allocation for your convenience. Some hotels don’t charge children 2 – 6 years old, and sharing bed with parents. However, they are not included in the complimentary breakfast if ever the hotel offers.

Duration – Reservation charges apply with the number of nights and not with the number of days

Guests per room – Normally, 2 – 5 star hotels don’t allow 5 persons in a room, thus, suggested to have 2 rooms for your   own safety and comfort. One twin and one triple.

Bed Types – Twin rooms have 2 single beds while double rooms have 1 big double bed good for 2 persons. Triple  rooms have 3 single beds or 1 single and 1 double bed or 1 king size bed.

• Adjacent room requests or type of beds could be requested ahead of time but is not guaranteed.
• Actual bed could be known upon check in, depending on the rooms to be vacated

 

Check-In – Normal check-in procedures are from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, and check out is from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm            * Requests for extension of hours depend on the hotel, which often depends on whether the room is not booked in for the next guest immediately after your expired duration. Were extension is possible this will often come with additional fees.

 

Larger party – for larger number of guests in a party, Hostels and home stays / cabins are more lenient with the group size, so long as they meet the maximum allowable guests in each room or apartment.

 

Car Rental – Vehicle for rent reservations should also take place a couple of weeks or months before the arrival and period of intended use, so as to reserve the slot for that particular day, weeks or months. Also depending on the owner’s and / or company’s policy, a guarantee deposit with a certain amount could be required in order to secure the unit.
